Over the next 12 months we will:

  • continue our work to approve and oversee the implementation of new National Qualifications

  • determine the best approach to take to standard setting and maintenance of National Qualifications

  • work with partners on the development and implementation of an effective programme of change management to support schools in implementing the National Qualifications

  • communicate and engage with learners, parents, colleges, work-based learning providers, universities and employers to build awareness of, and confidence in, the National Qualifications

  • work with WJEC to ensure that A and AS levels continue to build on the new made-for-Wales GCSEs

  • engage extensively with the post-16 education sector and with awarding bodies to identify a range of routes to best secure a comprehensive and effective range of post-16 qualifications

  • work with Welsh Government, Medr, awarding bodies and others to implement the recommendations of the Review of Vocational Qualifications in Wales

  • continue our reform of Essential Skills Wales qualifications to ensure a joined-up and robust approach to the assessment of literacy, numeracy and other relevant skills to meet the needs of learners

  • promote modern and innovative approaches to assessment

  • track the implementation of our wellbeing objectives and sustainable ways of working

  • launch a new integrated Cymraeg strategy as we adopt the Welsh language standards

  • consider how we can be most efficient and effective given the likely constraints on public sector finance and our funding
