In particular, the ongoing review and development of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the sector will provide an updated evidence base on workforce requirements and occupational competence.

In parallel, the Education Workforce Council (EWC) are reviewing professional standards and associated workforce expectations. The outcome of this work may have implications for the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of practitioners and support staff, and therefore for the qualifications that support entry and progression within the sector.

Delaying the review will allow these pieces of work to conclude, ensuring that any future review is informed by the latest occupational and professional standards, avoids duplication of effort, and results in recommendations that are relevant, coherent and sustainable for learners, practitioners and employers in Wales. In the meantime, we will continue to engage with stakeholders and monitor developments so that we are well positioned to recommence the review once the external landscape is clearer.
