Coming together at the National Eisteddfod to support the ambition of Cymraeg 2050

Qualifications Wales and the National Academy for Educational Leadership Wales are proud to be working together to show the innovative ways they’re contributing to Welsh Government’s goal of a million Welsh speakers by 2050.

Both organisations are committed to supporting Cymraeg 2050 and co-hosted an event earlier today with  education colleagues who were able to talk about their activity within their centres.

Trystan Edwards, Head of Ysgol Garth Olwg and Llinos Roberts, Coleg Cambria’s Head of Corporate Communications and Welsh Language, both provided an insight into the achievements and challenges of promoting Cymraeg and delivering education in Cymraeg within their communities.

Enabling Cymraeg to thrive in our schools, colleges and communities requires continued partnership working across Wales to support Welsh Government’s journey to a million Welsh speakers and our organisations remain committed to this goal.

David Jones, Chair of Qualifications Wales, said:
“It’s great to have an opportunity to talk to our stakeholders and work with our partners at the Eisteddfod.

“Cymraeg is such an integral part of our work at Qualifications Wales. As an organisation, we’re fully committed to Cymraeg and proud to co-host this important event.

“We want learners to be able to take qualifications in the language of their choice. As part of our 14-16 qualifications reform, it is required that all qualifications for learners aged 14-16 will be available bilingually, in Welsh and English. We are also excited about the new Cymraeg 14-16 offer that will allow learners to learn and use their Welsh outside of the classroom.”

“We are pleased to once again attend the National Eisteddfod and work in collaboration with our partners from Qualifications Wales. The National Eisteddfod is a hub for creativity and promotes inclusivity, bringing together audiences from diverse backgrounds from across Wales. Furthermore, it provides unique and invaluable opportunities for the National Academy for Educational Leadership to engage with colleagues and educational leaders. Engaging with others and having ongoing discussions is key to achieving the ambition of Wales 2050.”
