Have Your Say on approved physical activities for GCSE Physical Education and Health

Teachers, learners and other stakeholders can now request that new sports or physical activities be added to the approved list for GCSE Physical Education and Health

The new made-for-Wales GCSE in Physical Education and Health is now being taught in schools across Wales.

As part of the qualification, learners have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding of individual sports or physical activities chosen from an approved list. This list was developed with input from teachers, subject advisors, representatives from Sport Wales, and the awarding body, WJEC.

We know that the sports and physical activities that learners take part in can change over time. That's why teachers, learners, parents and carers, and other stakeholders can now request that new sports or physical activities be added to the approved list.

How to submit a request

Requests for inclusion will be reviewed annually and assessed against a set of published criteria. To be considered for the next academic year, requests must be submitted before the end of December each year.

This year, requests should be submitted by 31 December 2026 for consideration for learners starting their course in September 2027. Requests submitted after this date will be considered in the following year's review.
