New learner journeys for vocational qualifications
Following Welsh Government’s review of vocational qualifications, Qualifications Wales has worked with stakeholders and learners to produce vocational qualification maps, designed to support learners as they consider their options and progression opportunities.
Today, we have published twenty-one new learner journey resources for vocational qualifications at Entry Level to Level 3 that are delivered in schools, further education colleges and work-based learning settings.
Available as one-page documents that show all the different qualification options and pathways available in each sector, they’re designed to:
- support learners and their parents as they research their options in a vocational area
- be accessible and engaging
- provide a simple view of all the pathways and options available
The resources were developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, following a series of engagements with schools, further education colleges, work-based learning providers and learners.
In the spring of 2025, we shared our initial designs and invited feedback via our online Have Your Say platform. We also shared the initial designs with our Learner Advisory Group where we received positive feedback, as well as some suggestions which were incorporated into the final designs.
Lisa Mitchell, Qualifications Manager at Qualifications Wales said:
“We wanted to produce helpful resources for learners that show all the different options and pathways available in each sector. That’s why we have taken the time to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, as well as learners, to make sure we create resources that are helpful for them.
“Although each learner journey may look slightly different, reflecting the different qualification landscape, they have common features for consistency.
“The idea is that a learner can use these learner journeys as they consider their vocational qualification options when they’re deciding what route they want to take. They should also be helpful for parents and carers who are supporting learners as they consider their progression routes.”
All the learner journey resources are available on the Qualifications Wales website.
