Overview of November 2022 results
Well done to all the learners in Wales that sat exams in the November 2022 exam series. Today, they received their results from WJEC.
In November 2022, learners entered GCSE English Language, GCSE Mathematics, GCSE Mathematics-Numeracy and GCSE Welsh Language. We published official statistics on the entries on 1 December 2022. You can access the full report here: November 2022 GCSE Entries for Wales report.
There were 20,410 entries in November 2022, up 55.7% from 13,105 in November 2021. Total entries for November 2022 were slightly below 2018 and 2019 entries but were notably higher than both 2020 and 2021. Mathematics - Numeracy remains the largest November entry subject, making up 51.4% of total entries in 2022, compared to 44.4% in 2021. The majority (91.4%) of November 2022 GCSE entries were for Year 11 learners, a similar proportion as in 2021.
We closely monitored WJEC’s delivery of this series, and the approach taken to awarding grades in this context. We are confident that agreed principles and suitable processes were followed and that the awards were as fair as possible to learners.
