Publication of Approval Criteria for GCSE English Language (Post-16)

In November we announced our plans to introduce new GCSEs in English Language and Cymraeg language specifically for post-16 learners.  

These new qualifications will form part of a flexible menu of provision that will be available to post-16 learners from September 2027.  

We are now publishing the Approval Criteria for the GCSE English Language (Post-16).  

As WJEC starts its work to design and develop the qualifications to meet our requirements, we will work collaboratively towards the joint aim of approving the qualifications by autumn 2026, ready for first teaching from September 2027.  

We are currently developing the design requirements that will form the Approval Criteria for the GCSE Cymraeg language (Post-16). More information will be available in due course.
