Publication of a new Regulatory Framework

Qualifications Wales has published a new Regulatory Framework which sets out the rules for awarding bodies and the qualifications they develop, deliver and award to learners in Wales.

The Regulatory Framework outlines the requirements and expectations across our range of approved, designated and other regulated qualifications.

Designed as an interactive toolkit, the new framework has been prepared after an extensive review. We’ve worked with awarding bodies to ensure that our rules are accessible and more relevant to qualifications available to Welsh learners.

We have listened to feedback from awarding bodies and other stakeholders and incorporated their suggestions. The new Regulatory Framework:

  • is an interactive tool that is easy to use with improved clarity, navigation and interaction
  • includes information about how we regulate qualifications in Wales
  • provides access to the regulatory documents that awarding bodies are required to comply with
  • has rules that are embedded throughout and grouped by qualification type - so that they’re easier to locate

This new Regulatory Framework replaces our previously published Regulatory Framework and Approach and Regulatory Documents List.

Kath Grenyer, Qualifications Manager at Qualifications Wales, said:

I’d like to thank all those who have collaborated with us on this work, offering their insights and sharing feedback to help to shape our new Regulatory Framework

The new framework is designed for regulated awarding bodies and other stakeholders and reflects the varied regulatory requirements and expectations across a range of qualifications. Rules are embedded throughout the framework based on qualification type, to make it easier for awarding bodies to locate.

This new, interactive toolkit is designed to be simpler to navigate, so that information about what and how we regulate, plus our regulatory documents are easier to access.”
