Qualifications Wales to host Eisteddfod discussions on the future of qualifications

Join Qualifications Wales at Eisteddfod y Garreg Las for two panel discussions on vocational qualifications, Cymraeg qualifications and the future of qualifications in Wales.

Qualifications Wales will be at the National Eisteddfod this summer, hosting two panel events that will bring together voices from across education and training to discuss the future of qualifications in Wales. Both events will take place at the Qualifications Wales stand (231-232) at Eisteddfod y Garreg Las in Llantood, Pembrokeshire.  

On Monday 3 August, Qualifications Wales will host ‘Vocational Qualifications: A future that works for Wales’, a panel discussion exploring recent developments in vocational qualifications. The event, scheduled for 14:30-15:30, will look at the made-for-Wales qualifications offer, Essential Skills Wales, Welsh-medium qualifications and the opportunities and challenges facing the education sector. Panel members include representatives from Qualifications Wales, WJEC, VTCT Skills, Pembrokeshire College and Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.  

On Wednesday 5 August, Qualifications Wales will host ‘Next Steps: AS and A Level Cymraeg Language and Literature and Core Cymraeg’ from 14:30-15:30. The discussion will focus on the next steps towards introducing new qualifications from September 2027 and will feature speakers from Qualifications Wales, WJEC, Adnodd, Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and Ysgol Brynrefail, Gwynedd.  

Both events will be chaired by Lleu Williams, Head of Strategic Engagement at Qualifications Wales, and will provide opportunities for attendees to hear from experts, share views and discuss key developments affecting learners and educators across Wales.  

These events are free and open to all, and no prior registration is required. Light refreshments will be provided, along with the chance to network with stakeholders from across Wales. A translation service will also be available. 

Visitors can also find Qualifications Wales on the Maes throughout the week. Colleagues will be available at the stand to answer questions and chat with learners, parents and carers, educators, employers and anyone interested in learning more about qualifications in Wales – including the next wave of brand-new GCSEs coming this September.
