Working together at the Urdd Eisteddfod to support learners and the Welsh language
We are proud to be at the Maldwyn Urdd Eisteddfod, all this week, come and see us.
The Urdd Eisteddfod is one of Europe's largest traveling youth festivals which attracts around 90,000 visitors each year. Over the May half term, 15,000 children and young people under the age of 25 compete in various singing, dancing and performing competitions.
We collaborate and share a stand with two other organisations that are our partners, The National Academy for Leadership in Education, and Estyn.
Claire Roberts, our Head of Engagement here at Qualifications Wales said:
"Learners are at the heart of everything we do so what better place to be this week than with many of them, at the Urdd Eisteddfod, to engage and chat with our learners, their teachers, parents and carers as well as having an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the Welsh language and Welsh culture."
Tegwen Ellis, Chief Executive of the National Academy for Educational Leadership Wales said:
"We are proud to be able to support headteachers and senior leaders through valuable networking opportunities. This is a great opportunity to hear the views of the relevant voices who lead the Welsh language in their organisations day to day by being here at the Urdd Eisteddfod."
"Owen Evans, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector at Estyn, said:
"We are very proud to have a presence at the Urdd Eisteddfod this year. The development of the Welsh language is an important part of our work at Estyn and we fully support the Welsh Government's vision of creating one million speakers by 2050. Developing Welsh language skills is a core thread that runs across our three strategic objectives. We focus on the development of the Welsh language in our inspections and through our work we highlight the successes and areas for improvement in relation to the quality of leadership, provision and outcomes of the Welsh language in Welsh and English medium settings.
"We are getting closer to introducing our new inspection arrangements in September, and are keen during our time at the Urdd Eisteddfod to continue the discussions we have had with education and training providers throughout Wales, who have been key in shaping our plans over. the last eighteen months.
"We would encourage visitors to come and talk to us on our stand, to find out more about our new arrangements from September 2024 and to share their ideas which are really essential to our work."
We, at Qualifications Wales, are proud to be working closely with other partners as well such as the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and the Welsh Language Commissioner as well, to increase the availability of Welsh-medium qualifications so that learners can follow qualifications through their chosen language.
Our stall number is 68-71. Remember to come along to discuss education, qualifications, the Welsh language and more.
