Entries and late entries for GCSE and A level in Wales 2024/25
An annual release that presents data on the number of entries and late entries for GCSE, AS and A level qualifications in Wales.
Key Points:
There were 987,515 GCSE entries in the 2024 to 2025 academic year. Of these 8.2% were late entries.
There were 79,935 A level entries and 94,605 AS entries in the 2024 to 2025 academic year.
6.4% of total A level entries and 8.9% of AS entries were late entries.
336,480 GCSE certificates were awarded in the 2024 to 2025 academic year, a decrease of 2.5% compared to the 2023 to 2024 academic year.
72,775 AS and A level certificates were awarded in the 2024 to 2025 academic year, a decrease of 2.4% compared to the previous year.
For the purposes of these statistics, an entry is counted as a learner being put forward for an individual assessment. The definition of a late entry is set out in the background notes which accompany this release. The number of late entries does not necessarily represent the number of entries for which a late fee was applied.
