Variation in GCSE, AS, and A level qualification results: Summer 2025
This release presents statistics on changes in overall GCSE, AS and A level outcomes seen by maintained schools.
Key Points:
In summer 2025, school results for GCSE, AS and A level increased on average compared to 2024, this is consistent with changes in national results. However, some schools saw a decrease in results compared to 2024 and there was substantial variation in changes across schools.
Across GCSE, AS and A level, schools that saw a larger decrease in 2024 tended to see an increase in 2025, and vice versa. The strength of this pattern was moderate for all qualification types.
For GCSE, the correlation between changes in school results in 2025 compared to the changes in 2024 ranged between -0.33 and -0.45. At AS the correlation ranged between -0.33 and -0.46 whilst the correlation at A level ranged between -0.44 and -0.56.
Some of the statistics in this release are presented as boxplots. More information about how to interpret these charts can be found in the background notes for this release. The underlying data for each boxplot can be found in the data tables published alongside this release.
